"Jailed for Freedom" Suffragist Pin T-Shirt | Minimalist Historical Design

In 1917, members of the National Woman's Party became the first people to ever picket the White House, standing as "Silent Sentinels" in all weather to demand the vote. Dozens were arrested and imprisoned at the Occoquan Workhouse, where they endured brutal treatment for their peaceful protest.

To honor their courage, the National Woman's Party awarded these imprisoned suffragists small silver pins shaped like prison doors with heart-shaped locks — designed by Nina Allender. Roughly 170 women received one, including movement leader Alice Paul. The pin became a quiet, powerful symbol: proof that they had been jailed, and had not backed down.

This shirt features a minimalist rendering of that pin, placed subtly on the upper left chest — a small, personal tribute to the women who were jailed for freedom, and a reminder of what it took to win the vote.
